The 3 Laws to Keep You and Your Team Motivated - Part 1
Lack of Growth is Demotivating
Think about the job you do today. You may be a leader, an owner, a manager, or just getting started.
Imagine it’s ten years from now, and nothing has changed.
It’s still the same job
the same pay
the same aggravations
the same people getting on your nerves
If this happens, there’s a good chance the formula below will be you!
Lack of Growth = Unhappy = Demotivated
LAW #1 - You MUST have an Inspiring Vision.
Let me give you a better formula:
Progress = Happiness = Motivation
If you feel like you are making progress, you will feel happy. You will feel inspired.
Examples are:
You are motivated if you are paying off a debt and only have one payment left.
You are motivated if you just started a weight loss program and lost 5 pounds in the first week.
Motivation starts with a “picture” of where you want to go.
Progress requires a destination. A goal. A dream. It is a vision of where you want to go.
And when you have a positive, inspiring vision, it’s exciting. You look forward to getting out of bed in the morning. You’re excited to work to make the vision a reality.
You are motivated.
Maybe your vision is about a financial goal you have. Or a health goal. Or perhaps a personal relationship. Or a work promotion.
No matter what it is, a future positive view can be highly motivating and INSPIRING.
Practical Application for YOU
So, how do you create an inspiring vision? It starts with looking into the future and asking yourself questions like this.
Where do I want to be in 3-5 years with:
My career?
My health?
My relationships?
My faith?
My finances?
By answering those questions with a “can-do” attitude, you started to create an Inspiring Vision that will feed your soul and give you energy for a better tomorrow.
To help you and your team, we give you exercises like this in our Coffee with Champions program.
Practical Application for YOUR TEAM
Now, let’s flip the switch over to your work team. They are no different than you.
Each person, like you, is motivated by a compelling vision of the future…or demotivated by a stagnant picture of the future.
And if they are demotivated, they are not fun to be around. They're probably grumpy and just going through the motions.
Ah, this just sucks the life out of everyone.
So, how do we fix this on a bigger level? How do you make it so that you and everyone around you is inspired at work?
It starts with an Inspiring Vision for the Company that is big enough for everyone to have a part to play.
Coffee with Champions has a short workshop on this where the team answers questions like:
Where are we going?
Who are we helping?
How can we be a bigger force for good?
What’s our purpose?
Why do we do what we do?
Once you create great answers to those questions, inspiration and motivation will follow for you and your team.
Till next time, be a force for good.
