When I googled this question, the top 3 headlines I got were:
“The toxic effects of branding your workplace as a family”
“The dark side of saying work is like a family”
“9 reasons why your work team shouldn't be a family”
There are companies I admire for their unique approaches to management (37 Signals, Netflix) that say work should not be a family. And they’ve got the success to back it up.
But I’m all for creating a family-like workplace. As long as your view of “family” is a positive one.
Treat each other with respect and honor.
Hold each other accountable.
Support each other.
And manage your expectations…none of us are perfect. We need a mountain of grace for each other.
What are your thoughts on intentionally trying to create a family-like culture at work?
Till next time, be a force for good.
