What have I learned from 9,490+ days of Determined GRIT?
3 minutes a day can 100% decide whether you succeed or fail.
Our recent workshop at Coffee with Champions was on Perseverance, and the main question was:
“What advice would you give to a new entrepreneur regarding perseverance?”
I consider myself pretty qualified to answer this question. For 9,490+ days, I’ve been an entrepreneur persistently chasing a dream. (That's 26 years!)
I’ve persevered.
I’ve quit and given up.
And then I picked it up and started fighting again.
I've done this over and over and over. I have grit.
What have I learned? I've learned there are peaks and valleys in the perseverance journey. Mental highs and depressing lows.
Easy vs. Hard Perseverance
There are days that you have so much fight and optimism in you that you feel like you won the lottery. This is the "Easy Perseverance Path."
And then there are other days when you imagine giving it all up. Just burying the dream. Calling it a “lesson learned” and moving on to a simpler life. This is the "Hard Perseverance Path." I've been here on this path more times than I can count.
So, which path do I prefer?
That's a no-brainer. The Easy Perseverance Path. And I've learned how to substantially increase my odds of walking on Easy Street.
Here’s my daily routine
I've learned that keeping the proper perspective leads to intense grit and perseverance.
I keep the proper perspective by tracking my little wins daily.
At 7:30 PM - My Basecamp App automatically sends me these 2 questions.
I take 2-3 minutes to answer these 2 questions. This action forces me to see a good perspective and, over time, builds solid perseverance. This is how I now spend most of my time on the Easy Perseverance Path.
So, what advice would I give a new entrepreneur?
It’s going to be harder than you think.
Tracking your “little wins” daily will keep you in the right perspective and strong perseverance.
