Prospective client: “Do you sell coffee?”
Me: “Huh?”
____________
Let’s go back in time.
Recently, I had the opportunity to share our Coffee with Champions program with a very large, reputable company. This was an exciting opportunity for me, and I got to meet some of the top leaders of the organization.
But I totally missed it.
When they initially reached out to me, I just assumed that they knew what we did. But they didn’t.
And I didn’t clarify that our name was just a play on words.
So the conversation went like this:
Prospective client: “Do you sell coffee?”
Me: “Huh? We don’t sell coffee.”
We sell professional development training…but IT IS LIKE having a cup of coffee with a group of winners.”
It was all downhill from there.
But that’s ok.
Lesson learned.
Never assume people know what you do.
